You may notice a significant change in your quality of life if you suffer from sleep disorders such as Sleep Apnea. You can breathe normally again and sleep more soundly with the help of various treatment options that can keep your upper airway open during your sleep. You may have already heard of a machine called CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure therapy). However, there is another option for treating Sleep Apnea; APAP machines or Automatic Positive Airway Pressure machines.

What are APAP machines?

Like CPAP devices, APAP devices are used to treat obstructive sleep apnea. However, there is a key difference between CPAP and APAP machines. While CPAP delivers a continuous pressure of the same setting, APAP adjusts its settings according to the pressure required. This is because the device has built-in sensors that monitor your breathing and resistance in your breathing throughout the night. Using this data the APAP machine adjusts the pressure, not increasing the air pressure until it's needed. This method allows the machine to maintain a low setting until a change in your breathing is detected. It will then "automatically" release more airflow, making the experience less intensive than CPAP.

Put simply, while CPAP therapy delivers a constant flow of air pressure, APAP machines are more personalised and adapt the pressure based on the wearer's breathing. They adjust to the minimum pressure needed to maintain airflow. This results in a more natural breathing pattern.

If you are somebody who constantly adjusts sleeping positions, it may be best to look into APAP accessories like different masks and pillows to ensure a comfortable sleep.

Why choose an APAP machine instead of a CPAP machine?

As previously mentioned, a CPAP machine doesn't adjust based on your breathing; this can be uncomfortable for some people. On the other hand, the intuitive APAP machine adapts to the different breathing patterns you exhibit throughout your sleep stages and uses different pressures. For example, the machine can be set on low pressure as you try to fall asleep. This can be more comfortable and less invasive while trying to drift off.

In addition to the comfort of using an APAP machine, many users also appreciate the advanced settings offered by APAP therapy. APAP machines record data that can be downloaded and reviewed by yourself and medical experts to see what happens with your breathing during your sleep.

Consider a travel APAP therapy machine.

Sleep Apnea is a highly treatable sleep disorder. You can continue living a healthy life and sleeping well if you follow the correct treatment. However, this treatment is lifelong and involves night-after-night PAP treatment. Therefore, keeping up with your treatment even when you aren't at home is essential. We have a selection of portable APAP machines to make this easy for you. These transportable machines are perfect for travel and allow you to maintain everyday life without worrying about missing a good night's sleep while away.
